General Description: The heartwood has a medium to dark reddish-brown colour often with a stripy figure on the quarter-cut timber. A rather attractive wavy grain can be found on the crown-cut timber. The grain is interlocked or wavy with a fine texture. Sapele is a great alternative to Mahogany as it is more readily available and at a greater density.

Please note that for FD30 and FD60 doorsets the timber density must have a minimum density of 510kg/m3. It should be noted that some timbers such as Ash and Beech have high densities but are NOT suitable for an FD60 application. Get in touch further advice or samples. However, glazing beads should be manufactured from timbers that have a minimum density of 640kg/m3.
