Commercial Names: Sapelewood, Aboundikrou and Sapelli.
Scientific name: Entandrophragma Cylindricum.
Family: Meliaceae.
Distribution: West and East Africa.
General Description: The heartwood has a medium to dark reddish-brown colour often with a stripy figure on the quarter-cut timber. A rather attractive wavy grain can be found on the crown-cut timber. The grain is interlocked or wavy with a fine texture. Sapele is a great alternative to Mahogany as it is more readily available and at a greater density.
